Many legends of miracles border on the bizarre, strange, sensational, even sinister. This is a pretty spectacular miracle with a very unpleasant setting - there are not a lot of safe places to land on your freefall way down the cliffs at Dover, especially if you've been pushed - but the miraculous survival bears out Dunstan's longstanding reputation for goodness and gentleness, and a certain firmness, especially in his dealings with the powerful and political of the day.
